SUBSTANCE: invention relates to processing and storage of still images or video data in multimedia storage with descriptive metadata. Disclosed is a method of encoding an encoded binary stream representing one or more images, wherein the stream comprises data and metadata sections, and the method comprises steps of: providing an image element information identifying a portion of a data partition representing an image fragment or a single image and/or a set of single images; providing image description information comprising parameters including display parameters and/or conversion operators relating to one or more images, and outputting said binary stream together with said provided information as an encapsulated data file. Said image element information comprises one or more properties including, at least, part of image description information for a considered image fragment or single image, or a set of single images, wherein said image description information is set in one or more fields.
EFFECT: technical result is to create an improved file format for still images, for example, high-efficiency video encoding standard (HEVC).
