SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of video encoding. Method of processing multi-layer video data comprises: generating a file that comprises a movie box containing metadata for continuous media streams present in the file, wherein the file generation comprises: in response to the determination that at least one access unit of the bit stream of multi-layer video data includes a coded picture that has a picture output flag equal to a first value, and a coded picture that has a picture output flag equal to a second value different from said first value, using at least a first track and a second track to store the bitstream in the file, for each corresponding track from the first and second tracks, all of the coded pictures in each sample of the corresponding track have the same value of the picture output flag; and pictures with picture output flags equal to the first value are allowed for output, and pictures with image output flags, equal to the second value, are allowed for use as reference pictures, but not allowed for output; and for each corresponding track from the file, the inclusion of the corresponding track box in the movie box, and the corresponding track box contains the metadata for the corresponding track, wherein each of the media streams present in the file is represented in the file as a corresponding file track, wherein the media stream for the corresponding track contains the corresponding sequence of samples, wherein the corresponding sequence of samples includes access units of multi-layer video data, wherein the media stream for the corresponding track is embedded in the media box of the file.

EFFECT: technical result is an increase in the efficiency of video data processing.
