SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an insulating layer-forming composition with swelling properties and use thereof for coating metal and/or non-metallic substrates. Composition contains a binder based on a polycarbamide base. Composition contains an isocyanate compound A and an ingredient B, a reagent reactive with respect to the isocyanate compound, selected from polyamines, polyether amines, esters of polyaspartic alcohol and mixtures thereof. Use of said composition, characterized by a relatively high degree of swelling, enables simple methods of quickly applying coatings, which have the required thickness to provide the required fire resistance, wherein, although layer thickness is minimized, efficient insulating action can be ensured.

EFFECT: said composition is especially suitable for fire protection primarily as a coating applied on metal and non-metallic bases, for example, steel construction parts, particularly supports, beams and lattice bonds, in order to increase their fire resistance.
