FIELD: measurement technology.
SUBSTANCE: use for determination of limit state of material of main gas pipelines during operation. Summary of invention consists in the fact that design limit state is determined from the ratio of the impact strength of the material of the structure to the standard impact viscosity or impact viscosity corresponding to brittle fracture of the material. To determine the impact strength of the material of the structure, a correlation between the impact viscosity of the material of the samples in different structural states and the speed of sound of said samples is established. Structure sound velocity in the analysed zone is also measured, and the impact viscosity of the structure material is determined from the correlation dependence.
EFFECT: eliminating the need to cut specimens from the structure when determining the limit state of material of main gas pipelines.
