FIELD: machine building.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of controlling traction system of vehicles with electric traction. Method of controlling power efficiency of locomotive by controlling number of simultaneously operating traction engines is as follows. Optimum number of operating traction engines is determined based on the condition of maintaining maximum operating efficiency of locomotive. Operational efficiency is calculated on the basis of measured in real time data from locomotive sensors following parameters: locomotive traction speed, locomotive traction force, traction motor torque, traction motor current and known constant numerical data on locomotive and traction motor parameters and calculated values of power losses for rotation of disconnected wheeled motor units. At that, compliance with requirements for adhesion of wheels with rails and condition is considered, which consists in the fact that design value of optimum current of traction engine must be less or equal to maximum allowable current of traction engines taking into account mechanical losses of power in gear transmissions of disconnected traction engines.
EFFECT: high accuracy of determining the number of operating traction engines of a locomotive.
