FIELD: vehicles.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to control over traction system of vehicles with electric traction. Method of controlling energy efficiency of multi-engine traction drive of locomotive with commutator electric machines during operation with partial load consists in the fact that number of simultaneously operating traction motors is controlled. At that, disconnection or connection of traction motors is performed in accordance with dependence of efficiency factor (EF) of traction electric machine on consumed power, maintaining this power in range of 45–90 % of its nominal value. At the same time, permissible time of staying of each of collector electric machines removed from traction in de-energized state is controlled by software.

EFFECT: improving energy efficiency of a locomotive without damages of a commutator-brush assembly of electric machines.
