FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: disclosed is a method of dehydrogenating alkanes or alkylbenzenes to corresponding alkenes and hydrogen (H2), involving contacting alkane or alkylbenzene with metal sulphide (MeS) based catalyst, in which dehydrogenation is carried out in one or more dehydrogenation reactors in the presence of hydrogen sulphide (H2S) without formation of H2S as a reaction product, water vapour (H2O) is less than 10 % (volumetric flow rate) of the carrier gas used for alkanes or alkylbenzenes, molar ratio of hydrogen sulphide to alkanes or alkylbenzenes is between 0.01 and 0.2, molar ratio of hydrogen sulphide (H2S) to hydrogen (H2) is between 0.01 and 0.2, and either benzene, toluene or a combination thereof, or methane, ethane or combinations thereof, both are used as a carrier gas.
EFFECT: technical result is providing high stability of catalyst.
