FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a catalyst for alkane dehydrogenation to alkenes, wherein said catalyst contains a catalytically active material supported on a support, where catalytically active material contains metal sulphide (MeS), which is a semiconductor, metal sulphide metal includes Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Mo or W or any combination of two or more metals, selected from Pb, Sn, Zn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Mo and W, the catalyst is configured for regeneration, and the regeneration step includes oxidation in diluted air, converting sulphide to corresponding sulphate and converting it back to sulphide by reduction in diluted hydrogen containing a certain amount of hydrogen sulphide. Present invention also relates to a method of dehydrogenating alkanes to corresponding unsaturated alkenes and hydrogen (H2).
EFFECT: technical result of this invention is use of new generation of catalysts from metal sulphides, which are easy to manufacture and remain in active phase during operation.
