FIELD: optics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to remote optical methods of controlling horizontal visibility range during daylight hours. Method involves recording in the visible spectrum of scattered solar radiation coming from an open section of the sky at an angle close to the horizon line. Additionally spectra of scattered solar radiation coming from vertical direction at angle of 90° to horizon line. Record are calibration spectra of scattered solar radiation coming from the vertical direction at angle of 90° and at angle of 30°, in directions to horizon line are preliminarily, once, in high (midday) sun and cloudless sky conditions. In all recorded spectra, absorption bands of oxygen dimer (O2-O2) are measured and determining its integral concentrations, and the meteorological range of visibility in the selected horizontal direction is calculated as a triple product, calculated from the barometric formula and reduced to the surface concentration of the height of the vertical column of the oxygen dimer on the ratio of the difference in the concentration of integral concentrations of the oxygen dimer, measured from spectra of scattered solar radiation, respectively in horizontal and vertical directions, to difference of integral concentration of oxygen dimer, obtained from previously measured calibration spectra of scattered solar radiation, respectively at angles of 30° and 90° to horizon.
EFFECT: elimination of data extrapolation, elimination of individual visual assessment of MRV, possibility of determining MRV in all azimuth directions, providing mobility, automation and continuity of obtaining MRV data.
