SUBSTANCE: invention relates to monitoring system of vehicle component, in particular, to air filter state determining system. Method of determining the state of an air filter, particularly for internal combustion engines, comprises the following steps, at which: (ik) calculating linear regression by data pairs, each of which contains value (ia) of pressure drop on air filter and square value (ib) of air flow passing through air filter, corresponding to value of pressure drop, to obtain angular coefficient (k) of linear regression, (iki) is used to compare the angular coefficient or the angular coefficient function with at least one threshold (ThL, Th1, ThU) to determine (ikii) the operating state of the filter.
EFFECT: invention provides determining the state of the air filter when the pressure difference between the two extreme states is limited.
