FIELD: internal combustion engines.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to internal combustion engines equipped with at least one low-pressure exhaust gas recirculation channel. Result is achieved due to detection of leakage / malfunction of low pressure system EGR detection system (RL) of internal combustion engine, by performing method comprising following steps - (step 1) obtaining the value of lambda measured at the exhaust (λmeasured) by said third measurement or evaluation means (λ and/or NOx), - (step 2) calculation of theoretical value (λexp) of said air-to-fuel ratio, calculated based on said measured or estimated amount of fresh air (
) and fuel (
), - (stage 3) calculation of error (λerr) between said measured and theoretical values of air to fuel ratio (λmeasured−λexp), - (step 4) calculating / estimating amount / flow of low-pressure recycled exhaust gas (
), - (step 5) calculating the linear regression from said recirculated exhaust gas amount (
) and said error (λerr),- (step 6) the leak / fault signaling on said low pressure EGR circuit when the angular coefficient (b) of said linear regression exceeds a predetermined first positive threshold value (bmax).
EFFECT: technical result is providing a system capable of monitoring the possible supply of fresh air into/through the low pressure EGR channel of an internal combustion engine of the type and without supercharging, and with supercharging.
