Result is achieved due to detection of leakage / malfunction of low pressure system EGR detection system (RL) of internal combustion engine, by performing method comprising following steps - (step 1) obtaining the value of lambda measured at the exhaust (λmeasured) by said third measurement or evaluation means (λ and/or NOx), - (step 2) calculation of theoretical value (λexp) of said air-to-fuel ratio, calculated based on said measured or estimated amount of fresh air (
EFFECT: technical result is providing a system capable of monitoring the possible supply of fresh air into/through the low pressure EGR channel of an internal combustion engine of the type and without supercharging, and with supercharging.
