SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method and a mobile device for transmitting payment transaction data. Method comprises receiving, by a mobile device, a user request to initiate a transaction with a merchant; transmitting, by a mobile device, a transaction initiation message to a merchant server associated with said merchant; receiving, by a mobile device, a request message from said merchant server for remote payment data, wherein said request message identifies a selected data format supported by the merchant server, wherein the selected data format identifies at least one of the first data format and the alternative data format; generating, by the mobile device, remote payment data based on the selected data format; and transmitting, via the mobile device, said remote payment data to said merchant server in said selected data format to initiate authorization processing of said transaction.
