SEALING CAP FOR SEALING OF NOZZLE HOLES APERTURES OF VACUUM-FILM MOLDING Russian patent published in 2019 - IPC B22C9/03 

FIELD: manufacturing technology.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to foundry and can be used in production of castings from aluminum and other alloys. Sealing cap is made in the form of a hollow body with an end part and a side conical part connected to it, the maximum external diameter of which corresponds to the air drain hole diameter. Cap is made from high-elastic thermoplastic elastomer having Shore A hardness of 60–75 units, tensile strength of 3.0–10.0 MPa, elongation at break of 350–650 %, density – 0.9–1.5 g/cm³ and melt flow index (190 °C/5.0 kg) – 0.14–5.0 g/10 min. Cap is equipped with a tapering outer conical part protruding above the collar of the end part with an internal conical hole corresponding to the internal conical hole of the side conical part of the cap with taper from 1° up to 5°, wall thickness of convergent additional conical part is from 1.5 to 5 mm, diameter of inner hole of converging outer conical part is from 40 to 55 mm, and height of additional conical part is 0.30–0.70 of height H of cap, wherein said collar is made with diameter of 1.1–2.0 of maximum outer diameter of conical lateral part at angle of 0.1° up to 10° to additional tapered conical part of cap with outer rounding.

EFFECT: invention provides considerable reduction of labor intensity and time of preparatory operations when making sand casting mold using sealing cap, improved quality of produced casts, as well as improved manufacturability both in production of sealing cap and during its practical use.
