SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to the pharmaceutical industry, specifically to embodiments of an ophthalmic composition and to a method of treating keratoconjunctivitis or dry eye syndrome by administering to a human or other mammal an effective amount of the disclosed ophthalmic composition. In one embodiment, the composition is an emulsion and contains 0.1–1 wt. % linseed oil, 0.1–1 wt. % castor oil, 0.001–0.05 wt. % butylated hydroxytoluene, 0.25–1 wt. % sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, 0.1–0.5 wt. % carnitine, 0.1–2 wt. % glycerol, 0.1–0.5 wt. % erythrite, 0.5–3 wt. % trehalose, 0.1–2 wt. % boric acid, 0.1–2 wt. % polysorbate 80, 0.1–2 wt. % polyoxyethylene (40) stearate, 0.05–1 wt. % cross-linked acrylate polymer/C_10–30 alkyl acrylate and water; wherein the composition does not contain an antimicrobial preserving agent. In another embodiment disclosed is a composition with dot content of said components. In yet another embodiment, the composition further contains butylated hydroxyanisole 0.001–0.05 wt. %.

EFFECT: group of inventions provides stabilized compositions based on oils which are a source of omega-3-fatty acids.
