SUBSTANCE: invention relates to chemical industry, including petrochemistry, gas chemistry, coal chemistry and can be used in preparing catalysts for the process of producing synthetic hydrocarbons from CO and H₂ by Fischer-Tropsch method. Invention relates to a cobalt catalyst which is selective with respect to formation of hydrocarbons of diesel fraction C₁₁-C₁₈, enriched with isoparaffins, and a method of preparing a catalyst which includes preparation and heat treatment of a cobalt catalyst by impregnation and zeolite ZSM-5 by ion exchange, mixing powders of cobalt catalyst, ZSM-5 zeolite and boehmite binder, obtaining a homogeneous mass, molding granules, thermal treatment, milling and activation of the catalyst. Catalyst contains the following components, wt%: cobalt catalyst with an aluminum additive on a silica gel support – 30–40; binding boehmite – 30–40; zeolite ZSM-5 as a balance; wherein the cobalt catalyst with aluminum on the silica gel support contains the following, wt%: cobalt – 6.5–8.7; aluminum additive – 0.33–0.43; silica gel carrier as a balance; wherein zeolite ZSM-5 contains, wt%: palladium additive – 0.08–0.12; zeolite ZSM-5 in ammonium form as a balance.

EFFECT: catalyst obtained using said method has improved catalytic properties.
