FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a device and methods of removing contaminants, such as nitrogen oxides, sulphur oxides, particles, heavy metals and acid gases from process gas streams. Method comprises feeding process gas stream to inlet of horizontal spray wet scrubber, dividing the process gas stream at the inlet of the scrubber without any physical obstacle in the scrubber over the scrubber length from the inlet to the outlet to a plurality of process gas streams separated from each other, supply of ozone to contact with selected streams from separated gas streams in scrubber or downstream of scrubber for oxidation of contaminants, in particular for treatment of specified percentage of process gas flow, supplied to scrubber, removing oxidised contaminants from either selected separated gas streams and combining selected separated gas streams, at least substantially free of contaminants, with other separated gas streams containing contaminants, or after combination of selected separated gas streams with other separated gas flows from combined gas flow.
EFFECT: invention provides efficient and cost-effective removal of contaminants from process gas streams.
