FIELD: electrical engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to electrical engineering, to compact magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) pumps. MHD-pump comprises working channel formed by flattened section (1) of thin-walled tube (2) of stainless steel, to which direct current source (3) is connected through two buses (4), (5). Magnetic field source is made in the form of opposite to each other two permanent magnets (6), (7) interconnected by magnetic conductor (8). Working channel is arranged between two permanent magnets with slot-like gaps, in each of which there are: electrically insulating gasket (9), strip heating bus (10) connected to additional current source (11), and heat-insulating gasket (12). Preferably each of busbars is equipped with thermal barrier (16) and heat exchanger (17). In the pump system, working channels of MHD-pumps are made of identical thin-walled tubes, and working channel of MHD pump, which is the first in flow of pumped medium, has larger cross section.
EFFECT: reduced dimensions, simplified design and operation, increased reliability and service life, provision of clean conditions for pumping of a wide range of liquid metals and alloys at high pressure (2 bar) with capacity ~ 100 cm3/s.
