FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy and can be used for fluxless melting of magnesium alloys of magnesium-aluminum-zinc-manganese system. Protective gas medium above melt surface is created in the form of mixture of oxygen-free carbon-containing gases and inert gas in ratio (1–10)÷(1–20), which is supplied through a tube having holes in its lower ring-shaped part, wherein when creating protective atmosphere said mixture is supplied above surface of melt until reaching its temperature of 730–750 °C, and then performing melt modification and refining by immersion into melt of said lower annular part of tube, through which said mixture of gases is supplied for 10–20 minutes with simultaneous mixing of melt by means of mechanism for its mixing, and after completion of the modification and refining process, said mechanism and tube are removed from the melt and said mixture of gases is fed above the melt surface until the melt is poured into molds.
EFFECT: invention makes it possible to create protective gas medium from active and inert gases for blowing melt, simultaneously performing modification and refining.
