FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of metallurgy, namely, to the modification of aluminum-silicon alloys of pre-eutectic, eutectic and post-eutectic compositions, and can be used in the process of preparing aluminum-silicon alloys for the production of shaped castings. The method of modifying aluminum-silicon alloys includes introducing into the melt a flux containing, wt. %: titanium dioxide 19-29, barium fluoride 32-40, potassium fluoride 34-42, while the flux is evenly poured onto the surface of the aluminum-silicon melt at a temperature of 780-820 ºC in an amount of 1.5-2.5% of the melt mass, held for 8-10 minutes, and then mixed into the melt to a depth of 10-20 cm with the formation of crumbly slag on the surface, after which the formed slag is removed from the surface of the melt, and the alloy is held for another 8-10 minutes before teeming.
EFFECT: invention is aimed at improving the mechanical properties of an aluminum-silicon alloy by breaking all structural components of the alloy during their crystallization.
