FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: disclosed is a cyclocarbonate synthesis method involving reacting at least one epoxy compound and carbon dioxide at atmospheric pressure and temperature in range of 100 to 150 °C in the presence of a heterogeneous catalyst system, wherein the catalyst system comprising (a) at least one alkali metal halide selected from a group consisting of alkali metal iodides and alkali metal bromides, preferably selected from a group consisting of lithium (LiI) iodide, sodium iodide (NaI), potassium iodide (KI), lithium bromide (LiBr), sodium bromide (NaBr) and potassium bromide (KBr), and (b) silicon dioxide (SiO2). Also disclosed is use of heterogeneous catalyst system described above.
EFFECT: technical result is creation of heterogeneous catalyst system, which overcomes shortcomings of existing systems and provides simple and efficient method of synthesis of cyclocarbonates, which will be easily separated and extracted from reaction mixture after completion of reaction.
