FIELD: technological processes.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing a triethylammonium salt of tosyl methacrylic acid of formula (I), having properties of a plant growth regulator, involving reacting tosylchloride with methacrylic acid in molar ratio of 1:1 to 1:3 in the presence of a copper (I) or (II) chloride catalyst in amount of 1–10 mol% on the taken sulphonyl chloride and triethylamine hydrochloride in amount of 1.5–15 mol% on taken sulphonyl chloride at 80–100 °C in a medium of acetonitrile for a long time, dehydrochlorination of the reaction mixture with 5–25 % aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide at temperature of 0–5 °C, subsequent separation of catalyst and unreacted tosyl chloride by filtration, acidification of the filtrate with hydrochloric acid to pH 1–3 at 0–5 °C, filtration of tosyl methacrylic acid deposited and its subsequent reaction with triethylamine, wherein the reaction of tosylchloride with methacrylic acid is carried out using a mixed solvent of acetonitrile-ketone, wherein a ketone having a boiling point similar to that of acetonitrile, e.g. methyl ethyl ketone, in volume ratio (95:5) – (90:10) for 6–8 hours.

EFFECT: improved method of obtaining triethylammonium salt of tosylmethacrylic acid, high output thereof and shorter duration of the process.
