SUBSTANCE: invention relates to communication engineering and can be used in optical communication systems. To achieve the technical result, a low-level reset message is generated, having a reset level, providing a mechanism for remote reset by an optical line terminal (OLT) of a non-operating optical network unit (ONU). Reset message includes a reset level field which enables the OLT to issue an ONU command to reset some or all of its hardware and software components.
EFFECT: technical result consists in improvement of communication quality due to remote reset by an optical line terminal (OLT) of a non-operating optical network unit (ONU).
