FIELD: communication technology.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to communication technology; it can be used for time synchronization in a passive optical network (hereinafter – PON) system. The method includes: broadcasting by means of a terminal of time synchronization data, where time synchronization data includes time counting information and time information, reception of time synchronization data; and time synchronization based on time information, when a local time counter reaches a counting value indicated by time counting information. The terminal can broadcast time synchronization data to optical network units (hereinafter – ONU). PON port of an optical line terminal (hereinafter – OLT) should broadcast time synchronization data only once, without single-address transmission of time synchronization data to each ONU in separate, and all ONUs connected to PON port receive time synchronization data.

EFFECT: increase in the quality of synchronization due to reduction in a terminal load.
