FIELD: ecology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to ecology, namely to analytical chemistry when determining concentration of high-molecular weight water-soluble polymers in water. For this purpose, mass concentration of a copolymer of polyethylene carboxylic acid and its amide (PECAA) in aqueous solutions with concentration of 0.5 mg/cm3 is determined (basic solution) and with concentration of 0.1 mg/cm3 (working solution). Method is based on the ability to form large aggregates (flocculi), which are deposited by gravity. Solid phase used is a golden ocher pigment, for which settling time is determined in an aqueous solution in the absence and presence of PECAA. Depending on the PECAA content in the working solution and the flocculation degree of the working solution, calibrating charts are plotted to determine the calibration constant. Weight concentration of PECAA is calculated by formula: C = Dt·B/V (1), where C is weight concentration of polymer, mg/ml; Dt is degree of flocculation for weight of polymer solution tested; B is calibration constant, mg; V is volume of analyzed solution, ml.
EFFECT: invention provides a method for determining mass concentration of PECCA and is designed for use in laboratories of agricultural enterprises.
