FIELD: electronic equipment.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to user interaction with an electronic device by entering commands through monitored gestures, specifically controlling video material reproduction using touch gestures. To achieve technical result when controlling reproduction of video materials, providing video material by means of processing device for reproduction, receiving an indication of a touch gesture made by a user of the user device, and determining whether the touch gesture is a gesture of whispering in a part of a user interface (UI) containing a media player for playing video material. In response to determining, that the touch gesture is a gesture of whispering within a portion of the UI containing the media player, transferring a current moment of playing back video material from a first time point to a second time point by a given amount of time in response to determining that the touch gesture is a gesture of whispering in a portion of the UI containing the media player, and in response to determining that the touch gesture is a gesture of resembling a part of the UI containing the media player, switching to the other video material.

EFFECT: simplified user interaction with video materials due to high accuracy of switching video material displayed on compact playback device.
