SUBSTANCE: invention in general relates to a fuel refuelling request and an electro-rheological liquid in a fuel-filling hatch cover. Method for fuelling a fuel tank includes the following steps: supplying current with voltage exceeding threshold voltage to electrorheological fluid in locking mechanism of fuel-filling hatch cover and reducing voltage to value lower than threshold voltage for gradual opening of fuel-filling hatch cover, in response to pressure in fuel tank exceeding pressure threshold after receiving request for refuelling. Claimed system for fuelling a fuel tank comprising a fuelling hatch cover, which comprises: request button for fuelling; a spring connected to the hinge, wherein the spring is configured to squeeze the fuel-filling hatch cover towards the fully open position, and wherein hinge comprises electrorheological fluid electrically connected to electrodes for controlling viscosity of said liquid; and a controller which stores instructions in long-term memory, wherein during execution of said instructions, possibility of execution by a controller is provided. Estimates of pressure in fuel tank in response to pressing button of request for fuel filling, comparison of pressure in fuel tank with threshold pressure, reduction of voltage supplied to liquid, to voltage less than or equal to threshold voltage and greater than zero in response to pressure in the fuel tank exceeding the threshold pressure, and gradual opening of the fuelling hatch cover.

EFFECT: technical result is providing visual indication of filling request and duration of time required to reduce pressure in fuel tank to atmospheric pressure.
