SUBSTANCE: disclosed is a colour reproduction system comprising one or more output devices, a colour control system having one or more processors and connected to one or more output devices through a network, wherein the colour control system is configured to: determining a given colour and corresponding optical information of a given colour; matching optical information corresponding to a given colour with the predicted optical information of the dye composition, wherein predicted optical information of dye composition is based on characterization information of output device, corresponding combination of output device, operating mode of output device, base, one or more dyes and one or more luminaries/light sources and/or one or more viewer characteristics; transmitting an instruction/metadata file containing a dye composition and optical information associated with the dye receptor to one or more output devices in one or more physical locations; and causing the output device to produce a coloured article carrying a colour created according to the dye composition.
EFFECT: methods and systems for managing the application of colour to substrates are provided.
