FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing 2-ethylidene norbornane through hydrogenation of 5-ethylidene-2-norbornene. Method is characterized by that hydrogenation of 5-ethylidene-2-norbornene is carried out with hydrazine hydrate in the presence of an oxidizing agent, which is air, and a catalyst used as copper (II) sulphate or copper (II) chloride, taken in amount of 1–2 wt% per hydrazine hydrate, in a solvent medium in molar ratio of 5-ethylidene-2-norbornene : hydrazine hydrate : solvent = 1:(1–3):1.5, then obtained product is separated from water-alcohol phase, neutralized with polymer polysulphonic acid – sulphonated polystyrene cross-linked with 1,4-divinylbenzene, and extracting by distillation at atmospheric pressure an end product – a fraction with a boiling point of 148–150 °C.
EFFECT: achieving 100 % selectivity of the desired product while maintaining other high process parameters using a simple, cheap and easy-to-use method.
