SUBSTANCE: proposed piston internal combustion engine with variable stroke of piston, having engine shaft and piston, made with possibility of reciprocal movement in cylinder chamber, having axis, wherein each piston has a first piston part configured to move together with the second piston part or separately from the second piston part to determine piston strokes for different thermal modes of the engine, which comprises a device pivotally connected to the first piston part at the copying point, and an actuator connected to said device, and in which the actuator is configured to control the movement of the device to thereby substantially determine the linear movement of the copy point along the axis of the cylinder chamber.
