FIELD: instrument engineering.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to optical instrument-making and can be used in instrument engineering, medicine and other fields of science and engineering, where there is a need for continuous and smooth change in waist position of a laser Gaussian beam while ensuring constant diameter thereof. Essence of the invention consists in using a laser optical system of two fixed lenses, the focal distance of which varies according to a nonlinear law, which provides a smooth change in the position of the waist of the laser Gaussian beam with constant diameter. Law of changing focal distances of components takes into account the distinctive properties of laser radiation from incoherent homocentric radiation and expressions of laser optics which describe conversion of a Gaussian beam by optical elements and systems.

EFFECT: design of a method for smooth longitudinal displacement of a waist of a Gaussian beam of constant diameter based on a laser optical vario-system with lens-changing optical devices without using movable components.
