FIELD: manufacturing technology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a pigment composition for producing pigmented opaque coatings. Composition contains titanium dioxide particles characterized by bimodal mass distribution of particles by size. Particles of the first fraction have average size (d50) from 0.2 to 0.5 mcm, preferably from 0.2 to 0.4 mcm. Particles of the second fraction have average size (d50) from 2 to 200 mcm, preferably from 2 to 100 mcm, more preferably from 2 to 50 mcm and most preferably from 2 to 20 mcm. Surface of said particles of the first and second fractions is treated, for example, using aluminum oxide. Described also is a method of producing said pigment composition, a coating composition based thereon, a pigmented mat surface of the substrate, as well as use of said composition for matting the surface of the substrate.
EFFECT: invention provides a pigment composition, having matting properties and high opacity, use of which when coating substrates eliminates the need for a matting agent.
