FIELD: measuring equipment.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to checkout technique and can be used to find distribution of electric voltage on layers of insulation of winding of electrical machine to assess change in its electrical strength. Source of direct current is connected to deenergised winding of electric machine and its housing, under action of which current passes through insulation of stator winding and consists of transient and steady-state current. Initial value of transient current and its time constant are measured, which together with values of direct-current source voltage and insulation resistance of winding are used to solve system of equations, as a result of which values of capacitances of insulation layers used for calculation of voltage on its layers are found.

EFFECT: this allows to judge the tendency of change of electrical strength of insulation.
