FIELD: astronautics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to spacecraft (SC) motion control, geostationary spacecraft retention in preset area of stay. Method includes holding the spacecraft on a geostationary orbit by performing holding cycles, which contain steps of measuring orbital parameters, calculating corrections, performing period corrections, eccentricity and inclination. Cycle with duration that is much shorter than the limit cycle duration is used, wherein the period variation value is calculated using a special formula.
EFFECT: reduced requirements to accuracy of measurements and correction performance, eliminated necessity to control SC longitude output beyond allowable boundaries and simplified operation of SC control station operators.
