PROCESS OF MANUFACTURING HEAT-INSULATING MATERIALS FROM BASALT ULTRAFINE FIBER AND INSTALLATION FOR IMPLEMENTATION OF THE PROCESS Russian patent published in 2005 - IPC

FIELD: heat-insulating materials.

SUBSTANCE: invention, in particular, relates to manufacturing heat insulation for various industrial-destination assemblies and equipment. Process consists in melting basalt material, homogenizing and pouring melt at 1500-1650°C from arc furnace within the same melting space made of conducting material. Poured melt has viscosity 2-6 Pa·s and melt jet receives organic additive in quantity 0.4-0.6% of the weight of fiber product. Once melt jet is flashed, vertical stream of fibers is converted into horizontal stream, which is routed to formation of heat-insulating material. Installation comprises arc furnace with oblong melting space having length/width/thickness ratio 1:(0.5-0.7):(0.4-0.5), fiber-forming machine, device providing feeding organic additive into melt jet, diffuser, and horizontal fiber-precipitation chamber. Products are carpets, sewed-in mats, and plated obtained by introducing organosilicon binder into melt jet.

EFFECT: achieved stable small diameter of fibers, increased fiber length, reduced fiber density, and lowered content of non-fiber particles.
