FIELD: instrument engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a device for analyzing loose material, in particular granules, for presence of impurities, containing an inlet for granular material, through which there is a possibility of feeding loose material into the device in a substantially flat flow, wherein the device comprises two opposite tubular tunnel sections arranged so that the flow of loose material can fall between the tunnel sections, wherein at least one of the tunnel sections comprises a lighting device for indirect illumination of the bulk material flow, wherein the indirect illumination is arranged such that optical radiation does not directly flow from the lighting devices to the flow of bulk material, and also that optical radiation does not come directly from the lighting devices to the optical detector, wherein at least one optical detector is provided, directed to flow of bulk material through at least one tunnel section, wherein there is provided an analytical device configured to determine impurities in the analyzed loose material based on readings of at least one optical detector. Invention also relates to a method of operating such a device.
