FIELD: agriculture.
SUBSTANCE: invention is intended for pre-selection of corncobs for breeding purposes. From the cob, 50 grains are taken from one or two adjacent rows. They are soaked in a solution of a chemical compound in form of an iodine preparation - 8 % solution of a standard Lugol preparation with glycerol, placed in thermostat for 5 hours at 25 °C. Result is evaluated by number of coloured grains. If there are at least 46 clearly coloured grains, the ears are selected into a selection group.
EFFECT: simplification and increase of seeds evaluation rate.
