FIELD: agriculture. SUBSTANCE: method involves soaking seed material in water heated to temperature of 30-35 C for 30 min; providing seed germination for 10 days in thermostat at temperature of 25-28 C on filtering paper moistened with water and 0.5-mol% sodium chloride solution; determining content of free proline in plant leaves and calculating salt resistance coefficients, which are expressed in terms of ratio of concentration of amino acid in plants grown in salt solution to control concentration. Three groups of plants are determined: plants having high salt resistance (with salt resistance coefficient of at least 3.0); plants having average salt resistance (with salt resistance coefficient of 2.0-2.0); low salt resistance plants (salt resistance coefficient of 1.9 and less). EFFECT: increased efficiency, simplified method and provision for reliable diagnosis of plant salt resistance. 1 tbl
