FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention discloses a method of purifying a stream comprising monochloroacetic acid and dichloroacetic acid in which the stream is subjected to a catalytic hydrodechlorination step by reacting it with a hydrogen source to convert dichloroacetic acid to monochloroacetic acid in the presence of a solid heterogeneous hydrogenation catalyst containing a Group VIII noble metal, on a support, in hydrodechlorination conditions, in which the support is selected from a group consisting of activated carbon, silicon dioxide, aluminium oxide, zirconium oxide and titanium oxide, wherein heterogeneous catalyst contains palladium and/or platinum as noble metals of group VIII of periodic table of elements, in which reaction is carried out in presence of catalyst amplifier, which contains one or several iron salts.
EFFECT: technical result is increased conversion of dichloroacetic acid.
