FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a process of cleaning substantially anhydrous liquid raw material, containing monochloroacetic acid, dichloroacetic acid, optionally acid chlorides, optionally anhydrides and optionally acetic acid, which comprises following steps: (a) adding water to liquid raw material, so liquid material is obtained, containing between 0.01 and 5% by weight of water, based on total weight of liquid raw material, and (b) further, subjecting liquid material obtained at step (a), to a catalytic hydrodechlorination step by bringing into contact with a source of hydrogen for conversion of dichloroacetic acid into monochloroacetic acid in presence of a solid heterogeneous hydrogenation catalyst, containing one or more metals of group VIII of periodic table, deposited on a support to obtain a hydrogenation product, where hydrogenation product is a product containing monochloroacetic acid, with low content of dichloroacetic acid and colouring, equal to or less than 300 units Pt-Co, measured in accordance with ISO 6271.
EFFECT: purification of liquid feed.
