FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to analytical chemistry, chemical-pharmaceutical industry, and can be used for quality control of synthetic medicines, herbal raw materials and phytopreparations. Method of determining antioxidant activity of herbal raw material and phytopreparations by differential spectrophotometry involves boiling a batch of ground raw material in water at 1.0±0.1 g of batch for 30 ml of water for 40–50 minutes, cooling, straining through several layers of gauze and separation of aliquot part. Separated aliquot part is diluted with water in volume ratio 1:4, obtained solution is mixed with solutions of mediator system consisting of 0.0002 M potassium ferrocyanide solution and 0.0002 M potassium ferricyanide solution in volume ratio of 23:1:1 and optical density is measured by differential spectrophotometry at wavelength of 420±2 nm relative to the reference solution, which is 4 ml of purified water, brought to the mark in a volumetric flask with capacity of 50 ml of freshly prepared extraction, diluted with water in volume ratio of 1:4. Then the value of antioxidant activity of extraction is calculated in terms of ascorbic acid in g/ml of solution and content of the sum of BAS, having antioxidant activity (in terms of ascorbic acid and absolutely dry raw material) in percentage by declared formulas.
EFFECT: invention provides high accuracy of determination, as well as possibility of simultaneous determination of both antioxidant activity of extraction, and content of sum of biologically active substances having antioxidant activity; method also allows to standardize vegetal raw materials and phytopreparations according to content of BAS antioxidants and detect antioxidant or prooxidant activity of extracts from vegetal raw materials.
