FIELD: machine building.

SUBSTANCE: invention is related to the field of electric machine engineering and can be used at creation of high-quality control systems at operation of electric rolling stock and contact networks of electrified railways. Method consists in that traction electric current passing through sliding contact between contact wire and pantograph is decomposed into a Fourier series in real time; harmonic currents related to normal operation of electric equipment of electric stock are subtracted from obtained electric current spectrum; remaining current harmonics are characterized by instantaneous state of sliding electric contact, which depends on faults of contact wire and pantograph; comparison of harmonics of the obtained spectrum with harmonics of the reference spectrum, which characterizes normal operation of the sliding contact, enables to evaluate characteristic faults of the pantograph and contact wire; wherein the contact point of the pantograph is determined on the contact wire in the movement section of the electric stock.

EFFECT: when implementing the claimed solution, the technical result is the possibility of automating the control process based on digital equipment, making operational control and improving train safety and safety on the operated section of the railway.
