FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to chemical-thermal treatment of steel parts, particularly, to composition for surface laser hardening of parts from structural steels. Composition contains a thermosetting curing and coking mixture of epoxidated novolac (A), triethanolamine titanate (B) and petroleum pitch (C) in ratio A:B:C from 70:10:20 to 50:40:10. Mixture is applied on metal surface with layer from 5 to 15 mm and hardened at temperature from 120 ° C to 170 °C during 5 to 30 minutes. Then it is exposed to laser beam at temperature 1,200–1,300 °C during 5–20 minutes till formation of coke and titanium nitride. After that, it is exposed to a laser beam until destruction and removal of coke and organic impurities.
EFFECT: composition improves surface hardness and heat resistance of the treated surface.
