FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to chemical-thermal treatment of metal, primarily steel surfaces using laser plants and original chemical compositions and can be used for application of coatings on any surface. On metal surface there is applied coked thermosetting polymer composition, which is converted after heating into single macromolecule containing simultaneously atoms of nitrogen, titanium and carbon. Under the effect of temperature created by the laser beam, the composition destructs by releasing highly active atoms of nitrogen, titanium and carbon, which react with formation of mainly titanium nitride with iron carbide impurities in the medium of porous coke. Then, temperature is raised for coke destruction, and on fused surface of iron-carbon alloy remains lighter layer of solid particles.
EFFECT: method increases hardness and thermal stability of iron-carbon alloys due to formation on their surface of a layer of titanium nitride with an admixture of titanium carbide.
