FIELD: production of composite materials.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to composite billet strips for use in additive production technology and method of their formation. Composite billet strip contains continuous unidirectional fibers passing parallel to each other and to the main axes of the strip. Said continuity of fibers provides excellent mechanical properties, for example tensile strength along the main axis of the strip. Composite billet strips are made by lengthwise cutting of laminar composite material in direction parallel to fibers. In some embodiments, the shape of the cross-section of the cut strip can be varied by repeatedly applying the material to at least the surface of the strip and/or by coating the cut strip with another material. Said change of cross-section shape can be performed without disturbance of continuous fibers inside the strip. Distribution of transverse fibers along the cross-section inside the strip may be non-uniform, with high concentration of fibers near the main axis of the strips, for example, for production of additive production.
EFFECT: invention provides manufacturability of forming composite strips.
