FIELD: acoustics.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to means of acoustic logging of wells. In particular, disclosed is an acoustic well logging method, comprising steps of: placing an acoustic downhole device in a wellbore in a geologic formation; emitting a dipole acoustic signal using acoustic radiators of the downhole instrument; measuring the dipole acoustic signal using acoustic receivers of the downhole instrument; calculating, using a processor, a dipole differential energy of a dipole acoustic signal, measured using two of the acoustic receivers or emitted by two of the emitters, or both; and using a processor, a feature of dipole differential energy is created to facilitate identification of characteristics of the geological formation or wellbore, or both. At that, dipole differential energy is calculated as normalized differential energy, and calculation of dipole differential energy includes removal of basic energy level from normalized differential energy.

EFFECT: technical result is easier identification of geological characteristics or characteristics of the wellbore.
