SUBSTANCE: lifting mechanism for a spare wheel of vehicle comprises holder for receiving and holding of spare wheel, support for holder and balancing element for displacement of support in direction of access position. Spare wheel lifting mechanism is movable between wheel storage position inside vehicle storage compartment and access position, in which the spare wheel projects partially outside the vehicle body. Balancing element is formed by torsion shaft. Vehicle comprises said spare wheel lifting mechanism. Method for facilitating access to a spare wheel stored in a vehicle storage compartment, in which the spare wheel is held on the support and the support is displaced by means of the torsion shaft in the direction of the access position.
