FIELD: oil and gas industry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of oil from marginal wells by sucker-rod pumping units and, in particular, to method of periodic well operation. Method of periodic operation of oil wells consists in monitoring of bottomhole pressure by means of pressure sensor at pump intake. Minimum bottomhole pressure, duration of accumulation and pumping of formation medium from bottomhole, maximum and minimum flow rates of formation medium are established. When the bottomhole pressure reaches the minimum value, the pump is switched off. When gain of bottomhole pressure gain, which is determined by analytical expression, pump is switched on. Analytical expression includes recording of productivity of sucker-rod pump, area of annular space between casing string and string of tubing, duration between next measurements of bottomhole pressure, ratio of maximum and minimum values of flow rate of formation medium inflow, ratio of duration of accumulation and pumping of oil from face and density of formation medium.

EFFECT: ensuring maximum possible well flow rate with simultaneous elimination of gas discharge and sand ingress.
