FIELD: machine building.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a mechanism comprising cylinder (103) and a set of piston rings for piston (109) of a mechanism comprising a first piston ring (207) of a first section and a second piston ring (207) of a second cross-section, wherein first and second sections are different, each of piston rings (207) comprises peripheral surface (217) made with possibility of interaction with inner surface (105) of cylinder (103), wherein inner surface (105) comprises at least one groove (129) recessed in inner surface (105), interaction of contact portion of peripheral surface (217) of each of piston rings (207) with inner surface (105) of cylinder (103) defines corresponding areas of contact (111) between them and the rest of peripheral surface (217) of each of piston rings (207) does not interact with inner surface (105). Contact section of peripheral surface (217) of each of piston rings (207) is made so that ratio of size of each of contact areas (211) in direction of movement of piston (109) to size of groove (129) in direction of movement of piston (109) is in range from about 5:1 to 5:3.

EFFECT: invention provides reduced friction between piston rings and inner surface of engine.
