FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of light-weight hollow granules of powdered mineral or synthetic raw material for use in production of composite polymer articles, light structural materials, heat insulation for pipelines, frost-resistant plasters and other construction materials. Method of producing hollow granules is carried out by thermal treatment of powdered inorganic raw material in vertical furnace, having housing 1, in cavity of which there is an active zone, expanding in direction of flow of mixture. Active zone is formed by hollow elements 2 of variable cross-section, preferably cylinders, which are installed coaxially on each other so that active zone expands in direction from top to bottom. Between adjacent hollow elements 2 there are slits 3 formed by outer wall of upper and inner wall of lower hollow elements 2. Active zone is equipped with independent heating elements 7 electrically connected to control system 13. Hollow elements 2 in the form of cylinders are rigidly fixed in cavity of housing 1 with formation of gap zone 8. Powdered inorganic raw materials are fed by screw 5 and air by means of fan 6 into disperser 4 where they are mixed with each other. Air is also fed into clearance zone 8, through which air flow is blown into slots 3. Air supplied to disperser 4 and to branch pipe of air entering clearance zone 8 is preheated in air heater 9. At outlet of active zone mixture flow is cooled, for this purpose in housing 1 there arranged is header 10 communicated via mixer 11 with cyclone 12.

EFFECT: technical result is possibility of heaving of inorganic particles with size of 1–250 mcm, including especially small particles with size of less than 50–75 mcm, excluding sticking on walls, obtaining hollow light-weight granules with solid walls, with bulk density of up to 500 kg/m3, with compression strength from 0,1 to 40 MPa, with granule sizes from 1 to 500 mcm.
