FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy, namely, to steels having high damping capacity and used in production of cold- and hot-rolled sheets, long products, in production of elements of various structures, as well as fasteners. Steel contains the following component ratio, wt%: carbon not more than 0.045, silicon 0.01–0.55, manganese 0.005–0.65, aluminum 3.0–7.7, titanium 0.001–0.3, cobalt 0.052–0.095, chromium 0.001–0.35, copper not more than 0.2, nickel not more than 0.2, molybdenum 0.001–0.4, sulfur not more, than 0.02, phosphorus not more, than 0.02, nitrogen is not more than 0.015, iron and unavoidable impurities are the rest. Content of titanium, molybdenum, cobalt and carbon satisfies the condition: [0.2Ti+0.1Mo+0.1Co-0.9C]>0, and content of cobalt, manganese and nickel satisfies the condition: [0.9Co-0.1Mn-0.2Ni]>0.
EFFECT: improving damping capacity of steel and articles made from it, in the region of increased oscillation amplitudes making from 2_85×10-4 to 3_15×10-4, while maintaining high level of damping in the region of small oscillation amplitudes of 0_85×10-4 to 1_15×10-4, as well as maintaining the required level of impact strength and relative elongation.
